Maqbool Fida Hussain, who rose from a Bollywood billboard artist to India's most celebrated painter worldwide, died in London on Thursday, away from home on a self-imposed exile.
His work had just been auctioned at record prices. Hundreds of acolytes lined up on the sidewalk outside Gallery ArtsIndia, hoping to catch a glimpse of the white-haired one.
Nadira Babbar is now directing a play on the life of celebrated artist M F Hussain.
